The History of Milwaukee’s ‘Little Pink Church’
The church, which was demolished in 1967, was the social and spiritual anchor of the city’s Italian community.
The sign reads POMPEII SQUARE. Many people have driven past this tiny strip of green space while exiting 794 on their way to Summerfest or the Milwaukee Art Museum. Many have wondered what that sign means.
That small green space was actually where the first and only Italian church stood in the City of Milwaukee, THE BLESSED VIRGIN OF POMPEII CHURCH. It was known locally as “The Little Pink Church”.
Become a member of the club and attend our monthly meetings. We usually gather at our favorite Italian restaurants twice a month. All meetings begin at 6 PM. Please RSVP so we can have enough seating for everyone. Follow our Facebook page to never miss an upcoming event.
